Born in the U.S.A. -Bruce Springsteen
Born down in a dead man's town
The first kick I took was when I hit the ground
I tolerate Heartland Rock, but it's not really my thing. Too much Americana, not enough rock.
Despite that, I fucking love Born in the U.S.A. by Springsteen, and I fucking hate people who sing it as some kind of patriotic anthem. It's not, "Fuck yeah, we're America, fuck you!" It's, "Holy shit, we're America, what are we doing." Just look at the lyrics. Look at the lyrics.
It's a reaction to the shitty lives of working class, blue collar Americans, to people who are beat down by their lives until they've got no option but to just keep going and eventually die. It's a response to the Vietnam war. It's about bleakness, death, and the shitty conditions Nam vets came home to.
I'm ten years down the road
Nowhere to run, ain't got nowhere to go
